Safety management of mechanical engineering equipment

Time2024-01-31

Mechanical engineering equipment

The safe operation of mechanical equipment is of utmost importance to the production of the entire chemical enterprise. The chemical industry has its own characteristics, and the requirements for mechanical equipment are higher during production. The responsibility and tasks of safety management for chemical machinery and equipment are particularly significant. Adhering to the management principle of 'prevention first, maintenance second', it is essential to detect issues early and take effective preventive measures in a timely manner to ensure the safe, normal, and stable operation of mechanical equipment. This article provides a brief analysis of the safety management of mechanized chemical equipment based on the author's work experience.

Analyze faults in stages

1.1 Early stage of normal equipment operation

After the equipment is installed, debugged, technically certified, accepted, and operated for a period of time, some faults may frequently occur due to the nature of the equipment and the need for running-in. The main reasons include: defects in design details, processing flaws in the casting of components, improper operation by technicians when handling new equipment, and the need to cultivate familiarity with the equipment. Additionally, issues with improper installation of components during the installation process also significantly affect equipment operation. Strict quality control of the equipment is necessary at this stage, and mature products should be selected. During installation, it is essential to follow the drawings for proper assembly to ensure installation quality.

1.2 Mid-stage of normal equipment operation

After the equipment operates normally, faults enter a stable period, where issues such as the need to replace easily worn parts and components that have reached the end of their service life frequently arise, such as sealing rings or gaskets, as well as some worn parts that have a short lifespan. During production, if these components are not maintained and replaced for a long time, various components may lose their function, leading to equipment operation failures.

During normal maintenance, careless operation by staff can easily lead to unintentional damage to parts or the occurrence of unqualified or incompatible part replacements. Delays or inadequacies in routine maintenance, as well as foreign objects falling into the equipment, can also cause unexpected incidents. In pursuit of output, prolonged overload operation of the equipment can also lead to frequent failures.

Design and assembly issues that were not apparent in the early operation of the equipment may gradually emerge as production progresses. After a period of interaction between components, assembly defects and design flaws may also lead to safety production issues. Strict maintenance of the equipment during production is necessary, and repairs should be conducted according to design procedures. Problems should be addressed promptly, inspections should be conducted before operation, and issues should be resolved in a timely manner, with regular inspections carried out.

1.3 Late stage of equipment operation

In the later stage of chemical production equipment operation, due to the aging of components and the main body, the entire equipment enters a period of frequent failures. During this period, due to years of operation, multiple repairs, and component replacements, the equipment can no longer meet the expected design performance. Over long-term operation, wear and aging of components, deformation of the main structure, and loss of function can lead to a decrease in overall equipment efficiency. Additionally, various uncertainties in the equipment, influenced by changes in the objective environment, can also lead to frequent failures. The frequency and cost of repairs will significantly increase, necessitating comprehensive maintenance upgrades or disposal of the equipment.
