Promote the movement of stationary liquid materials, maintain the fluid flow state required for the stirring process, in order to achieve the purpose of stirring. The main component of the stirrer is the blades, so the geometric shape, size, quantity, and rotation speed of the blades have a significant impact on the function and stirring effect of the stirrer.

Function of the mixer

To promote the movement of stationary liquid materials and maintain the fluid flow state required for the mixing process to achieve the purpose of mixing. The main component of the mixer is the blades, so the geometric shape, size, number, and rotation speed of the blades have a significant impact on the function and mixing effect of the mixer.

1. Paddle mixer

Consists of blades, keys, shaft rings, and vertical shafts. The blades are generally made of flat steel, stainless steel, or non-ferrous metals. The rotation speed of paddle mixers is relatively low, generally between 20 to 80 r/min. The diameter of the paddle mixer is taken as 1/3 to 2/3 of the inner diameter of the reaction kettle, and the blades should not be too long. When the diameter of the reaction kettle is very large, two or more blades are used.

Paddle mixers are suitable for liquids with high fluidity and low viscosity, and are also suitable for fibrous and crystalline solutions. When the material layer is very deep, several rows of blades can be installed on the shaft.

2. Turbine mixer

Turbine mixers are divided into disc turbine mixers and open turbine mixers; according to the impeller, they can be divided into straight blades and curved blades. Turbine mixers have a higher speed, ranging from 300 to 600 r/min. The main advantage of turbine mixers is that they have a high mixing efficiency when energy consumption is low, generating strong radial flow. Therefore, they are suitable for emulsions, suspensions, etc.

3. Propeller mixer

Propeller mixers can make materials circulate within the reaction kettle during mixing, primarily functioning through volume circulation with less shear action, and have a good up-and-down tumbling effect. When a higher flow rate is needed, a flow guide tube is installed in the reaction kettle. The diameter of the propeller mixer is approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the inner diameter of the reaction kettle, with a speed of 300 to 600 r/min. The materials for the mixer are commonly cast iron and cast steel.

4. Frame and anchor mixers

Frame mixers can be seen as a variation of paddle mixers, with a more robust structure and capable of mixing large amounts of material. If the bottom shape of this type of mixer is similar to the shape of the lower head of the reaction kettle, it is usually referred to as an anchor mixer. Frame mixers have a larger diameter, generally taken as 2/3 to 9/10 of the reactor's inner diameter, with a speed of 50 to 70 r/min. The small gap between the frame mixer and the kettle wall is conducive to the heat transfer process. When rotating quickly, the liquid driven by the mixer blades brings down the stagnant layer from the kettle wall; when rotating slowly, mixers with scrapers can produce good heat conduction. This type of mixer is often used for heat transfer, crystallization operations, and mixing of high-viscosity liquids, high-concentration slurries, and sedimentary slurries.

5. Screw ribbon mixer and screw mixer

Screw ribbon mixers are commonly made of flat steel wound in a spiral shape, with a larger diameter, often made into several strips closely attached to the kettle wall, with a very small gap from the wall. Therefore, during mixing, they can continuously scrape off the deposits adhering to the kettle wall. The height of the screw ribbon is usually taken from the bottom of the tank to the liquid surface. Both screw ribbon mixers and screw mixers have a low rotation speed, usually not exceeding 50 r/min, generating a flow primarily based on up-and-down circulation, mainly used for mixing high-viscosity liquids.
